In my previous post I mentioned that part of my break was reawakening my interest in crochet.

I also mentioned that I initially started to this blog to share the adventures in my relatively new quilting hobby, so obviously I have multiple interests.  Interests, distractions, whatever you call them, I have several.

In the past, I thought perhaps it was a bad thing that I had so many interests because I never feel like I have mastered any of them.  I now longer feel like that for several reasons.

For one thing, I truly believe that, to some extent, having multiple interests keeps me from getting repetitive motion injury.  Different crafts require different muscles.  Quilting uses different muscles from crocheting.  From what I understand, repetitive motion injuries require lengthy recovery periods and sometimes even surgery.  It is also my understanding that exercises, stretches, and taking breaks can help prevent that, so if that happens naturally for me because I have multiple interests, then I am thankful.

More recently, I have come to realize that my different interests address different needs in my life.  I hope to explore that more in the future here on the blog.

What about you?  Do you have multiple crafting interests?  If so, I’d love to hear how they fill different needs in your life.

Hi!

Welcome to Sew Many Distractions. I have so many distractions – quilting, sewing, crocheting, and a few others. Sometimes a distraction from the busyness of life is just what is needed to be ready to tackle it anew. Take a break and join me.
