ripping out work

Have you ever taken a break from a project and then when you got back to it, felt like something just wasn’t working?  Maybe a crochet project where you decided that the yarn and pattern combination is no longer to your liking?  Or a quilt project where some blocks just didn’t seem to fit with the others when you tried to lay them out.?

Sometimes, you just have to rip out some work, salvage what you can, and move on.

That is where I am at with this blog.  I have ripped out some things, kept what I wanted, and rearranged it all.

In my last post I mentioned that I had stepped away and taken a break to focus on self-care.  It turns out that I needed a bigger break than I thought.

A big part of my break included returning to my interest in crochet.  (I started learning to crochet before I ever started learning to sew or quilt.)

First, I returned to work on a shawl that I really cannot remember when I started.  Then I started going back to the Saturday afternoon stitching sessions at my favorite yarn shop.  Then I started going to a weeknight stitching session at my local library. I had not realized how much I was missing it until I started it again.

I think I really needed the social component as part of my self care. If your crafting helps you with self care I’d love to hear about it.

It all made me realize once again how inspiring and helpful it is to connect with others that have similar interests.  And like me, there are many people that have interests in multiple areas.

When I initially started this blog in November of 2024, I thought I wanted to stick with posts mostly pertaining to my relatively new interest in quilting.  Now, not quite a year later, I want it to be so much more than that.  I want it to be a way to connect with other crafters for learning, sharing, inspiring, and encouraging one another.

Often times when stepping away from a project, it takes a bit of time to get back into a rhythm when coming back to it.  That is my next step with the blog.  Originally I worked at posting weekly.  Now I need to find a rhythm that works with the way life is for now.

Hi!

Welcome to Sew Many Distractions. I have so many distractions – quilting, sewing, crocheting, and a few others. Sometimes a distraction from the busyness of life is just what is needed to be ready to tackle it anew. Take a break and join me.
